I called haier about this error code. E1 indicates that a button on the control panel or the reomote is stuck. I was instructed to unplug the unit and push each button at least 5 times, one at a time. Plug the unit back in, and this fixed my problem with error E1 and the unit works fine.
Tried this one but didn't fix ours....Still shows E1 Code. When I called Haier they told me it was a temperature sensor code :(

I have a voltas veritas AC. I was getting the same error E1 on display on power ON. Reason was malfunctioning of sensor.
Simply replace the sensor and it will work fine.

If your air conditioner displays E1 in the display panel and won't turn on, it means that the Room Thermistor (a device connected to the thermostat that detects room temperature) is shorted or defective, and you need to have your air conditioner serviced. If it displays E2, E3, or any other E error, you also need to have your air conditioner serviced. To arrange for service, contact Samsung Customer Care at 1-800-Samsung (1-800-726-7864). Have the model number of your air conditioner on hand when you call.

Haier HWR05XC1 E1 error code on my machine. Leaving it unplugged all day did not do anything.
My unit stops working only after a minute, an E1 appears on the display. The only way to restart the system is to reset the power adapter. Then the unit restarts and then shuts down again within the small amount of time.
