No picture but has sound

My sony tv has sound when you turn it on but no picture.  We have unplugged the tv waited and the picture would finally come up. We called sony support and all they told us is to unplug. this morning when i got up the sound was there no picture but after cutting the tv off several times the picture appeared. now to come back home and have the same thing happen. after cont cutting off and on the picture will appear the sound is fine.  the red light does not blink after the tv picture appears. when you first cut the tv on it blinks then.  please help??? after the picture appears i have cut the tv off and on and the picture comes on its when you cut the tv off for a period of time there is no picture but we have sound.

The TV is about a year and a half old. Turned it on and after a short time I heard a loud pop and then the picture went. When I turned it back on the picture is hard to see and is dark and has no color. The sound is fine.

I have almost the same problem. 2 y/o Sanyo HDTV. It started by taking the tv an hour to warm up. now, if you turn it off it takes about 5-6 hours to warm up and start working.

The problem can be caused by a bad sustain board (Ysus Zsus) , the popping sound is often caused by a capacitor blowing up.
The TV must be taken apart and tested before eventually replacing sustain boards.

Dear Ginko, Does your answer apply to a CRT with Tube television? or for plasma, or LED or all of the above? Thank you.

Hi, sustain boards are used to control the energy supply to the plasma panel. The solution does not apply to CRT, LCD or LED models.

Sony Trinitron TV will not switch on

Please let us know what model Sony you have. You can try unplugging the TV and waiting at least 30 minutes. Plugging in the TV and using the power switch on the TV itself.

Sony FWD50PX2/S 50 in. Plasma Television power problem

It does sound like a power supply problem but that can be misleading because a problem somewhere else in the TV can be "holding down" the power supply. This can usually be determined by using some isolation techniques.
