Toshiba 42 inch LCD with no picture but sound. Flashlight test shows image on screen. No backlight visible with power. Inverter board?

In most of the case, the LED back lights strip is out

If you saw no faint picture with the flashlight, then it's the T-con board.

If it's LED or LCD then it's backlights-- just shine flashlight on screen at an angle and see if you can see any movement or bring up menu display and with a flashlight you should be able to see it---as stated above---
Symptom: No picture on screen but LCD TV still has sound.
Solutions: The problem is cause by defective inverter. Replacing inverter will solve the problem---ou cannot see anything at all then it's T-Con board--

Power on the unit in the dark room then aim a bright flashlight directly to the screen, you will barely see the images. This is because your backlight is not functioning. The following reason is the caused.
1. Power supply - missing B+(supply voltage) coming from this board feeding the inverter board. This is caused by faulty transistor, dried/leaky electrolytic capacitor, open fusible resistor.
2. Inverter board - even the B+ is good from the power supply, if the fuse, driver transistor, driver transformer is faulty no output to the backlight resulting to black picture.
3. Busted backlight - even inverter board is good but if this is busted resulting to black picture also.
Diagnosing the fault is technical and if you don't have necessary tools and test instrument and can't fix it yourself, I would advice you to look for an experienced technician to isolate the problem.

This problems are the tv 1 or 2 long LCD inverter boards are dead.These 1 or 2 long LCD inverter boards provide the tv LCD screen pannel a backlight to produce a picture.Tries websites like Shopjimmy.com,Ebay.com to buy those refurbishes 1 or 2 long LCD inverter boards for the replacement.

If you've tried the backlight and brightness from the menu, you may have a more serious problem.
Try this;
Take a bright flashlight and place it against the LCD screen. See if you can see an image around the edge of the flashlight. If you see an image, you probably have one of three problems;
1) The inverter board is bad.
2) CCFT (cold cathode fluorescent light(s)) are dead
3) Power supply to inverter board is bad.
